Nodusfall First Impressions

What people who sat at the Cologne PCs actually wrote — not a Metacritic, not a launch review.

First Impressions Roundup

There is no Nodusfall review, because there is no Nodusfall client. What exists, as of 4 September 2026, is a week of Gamescom hands-on: thirty to sixty minutes on high-end Windows PCs with Xbox pads, a HoYoverse handler, and a three-boss chain. This page files those impressions so “Nodusfall review” searches do not land on a fake score.

The playable recap is still hands-on. Genre arguments are on comparisons. This page is the tone: who liked the sword, who worried about the shop, who walked out saying it was not Elden Ring.

The people who actually played it

Fraser Brown, PC Gamer. Not a soulslike. Closer to a co-op hunt with MMO roles. Clash is a charged heavy released into an incoming hit; the greatsword swells into a glowing counter. His Divine turned him into a towering dual-wielding knight. One of the four Weavers had two classes on the select screen. Outfits, hair, and accessories were already on the bodies. He left wanting another hour with friends and a dragon.

Polygon’s Gamescom hour. The trailer looked like Elden Ring-meets-Monster Hunter. The session did not. Select-screen names: Grahmer, Suixi, Qiong, Hexsworn, plus a renameable Gamescom1 slot. Mission title: Purge Evil Spirits. Mounts cannot double-jump. A tent-village camp on a mountainside held merchants, upgrades, and hunt quests. Combat felt like co-op Final Fantasy 16: flashy specials, lighter hits, multiple boss health bars, a charged clash parry, four cooldown skills. Mounts chase a fleeing monster. Joint executions summoned a giant spectral axe-wielder. The reviewer framed it as reckless Clive-style swordplay, which is the point of a four-player hunt.

GameRant. Named Hexsworn. Male greatsword tank, two female bow users, one frost support. Ice pebble, underground wave, two heals, ice beam, green ring ultimate, a three-hit passive. Customization on the select screen. The only English preview name that has stuck.

Inven, Famitsu, 4Gamer, Jeuxvideo. Same kit, local job names, Xbox pads, tight photo rules. 4Gamer’s tape is the gameplay embed on combat. Fextralife’s “I played it” video is on the player hub page. FamitsuTUBE later posted booth play footage (jvnJekMsbU0) now on Divine Skills and Grahmer.

IGN Japan (Daniel Robson, 27 August). Named Glimmerwolf Incarnation as a Divine wolf-bite transform. Also mentioned planned fishing/cooking and amulets — life-skill talk, not a shipped menu.

MeinMMO (31 August / 1 September). German booth: the demo felt too easy, campfire revived instantly, no low-HP warning. Maldrake tied in that write-up to the Nibelungenlied. Ease-of-demo is not a launch difficulty slider.

None of those writers published a 1–10. Anyone selling you a 9.2 from Gamescom invented it.

What the impressions agree on

  • The demo is a hunt, not a soulslike duel and not a Genshin daily.
  • Four Weavers, five buttons, clash, Divine, a hub, a mount, a contract, a long boss.
  • Co-op is the showpiece. Solo is allowed for most core content, per the FAQ, but the booth was built for four.
  • Characters unlock through play. Cosmetics are the money sentence under consideration.
  • The build is not final. The trailer said so on-screen.

What they do not agree on, or cannot know

How heavy the shipped sword will be. Polygon said the Gamescom hits lacked weight; Brown still called clash stylish. Both can be true of a booth PC. Endgame, forging UI, PvP rules, and whether a random shop appears next to cosmetics are unpublished. Monetization and PvP keep those gaps labelled.

Production age still splits: Japanese FAQ about two years, TechNode more than four. That argument does not change how the demo felt. Development holds the quotes.

How to read a YouTube “review”

If the video is a trailer recap, it is not a review. If the creator did not sit at Cologne, they are reacting to the same film you already watched on the homepage. Fextralife, PC Gamer, Polygon, GameRant, Inven, and 4Gamer are the playable set. Official uploads stay on links and media kit.

When a public beta exists, this page becomes a dated archive and a live review hub starts. Until then, the honest product is an impressions file plus a pre-register button. For how to spend a future test hour, use getting started and the beta checklist.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Nodusfall questions.

Is there a Nodusfall review score?

No. The game is unreleased. Gamescom hands-on pieces are impressions, not reviews.

Who actually played it?

PC Gamer, Polygon, GameRant, Inven, Famitsu, 4Gamer, Jeuxvideo, Fextralife, and other booth press. See hands-on for the kit.

Did anyone call it a soulslike after playing?

No. Brown said it is not. Polygon compared the feel to co-op Final Fantasy 16. Details: comparisons.
