Gamescom Hands-On Roundup

Opening Night Live on 25 August 2026 was a trailer. The useful week was the 26–29 August hands-on pile: Inven at a dedicated Cologne set, GameRant on Hexsworn, PC Gamer’s Fraser Brown on clash, Jeuxvideo on the tank’s giant-knight Divine, 4Gamer and Famitsu in Japanese, TechNode on Elemental Links and floating ruins. This page files that week so Gamescom 2026 can stay a show recap and combat can stay a verb list.

Nothing here is a patch. Demo language. If two outlets disagree, both stay on the page.

Timeline of the week

  • 25 Aug — ONL world premiere. Pre-registration opens. Official trailer: Wield Divinity, Sever the Dreadnodus.
  • 26 Aug — Preview event. 4Gamer calls it a world-first playtest. Inven plays in a dressed venue near Koelnmesse.
  • 27–28 Aug — Inven Global English write-up. TechNode describes Elemental Links, cloud-sea ruins, and a Source Core shatter. Jeuxvideo’s hour-long tank session. WiLLiSGaming recaps PvP, cosmetics, and playtest talk.
  • 29 Aug — GameRant Hexsworn preview. PC Gamer publishes a key-details hub: 2028 speculation (not an announcement), solo finishers, boss-control PvP, no character gacha.

Liu Wei’s translated remark that development felt “very un-miHoYo” belongs to this week as color, not as a systems change. Production length is messy: Japanese FAQ said about two years; TechNode said more than four. This wiki will not pick a winner.

What they played

Four Weavers. Sub-class or Style pick after the body. Xbox pads on high-end PCs. A short tutorial, then a notice board in a treehouse-like hub, then a contract. GameRant’s party was told they would fight three bosses in a row and teleport between them — the writer was unsure whether that chaining is the live structure or a demo edit.

Cleaver Fellstone at a waterfall was the opener. Tank rushed in. Ranged rained from the backline. Hexsworn felt useless while nobody took damage.

Qionqi (GameRant’s spelling; Japanese チョンチー) in an underground cavern was the hard one. Winged horned lion from Chinese mythology. AoE soup plus four players’ VFX hid telegraphs. The party brute-forced a finisher in which the tank became a tall knight and beheaded the beast.

Maldrake and rider closed GameRant’s session. Western-dragon plus armored knight, compared to Dark Souls 3’s Nameless King pair. Healer finally mattered. Hexsworn’s three-secondary passive became the loop: chip, empower, heal through a swing or ice-beam for damage. Inven’s bow player met the same rider-drake as a two-target fight once the knight dismounted; that was their first death.

Inven’s white-tiger-with-wings target fled before the kill, forcing a chase. Health bars were stacked. Executions: one starter in cinematic camera, others still in third-person. Skill cooldowns around twenty seconds for basics; ultimates over two minutes. Divine on the bow became a beast-mount with awkward melee range.

Fraser Brown’s clash remains the cleanest melee sentence in the pile: charge a heavy, release as the monster hits you, watch the sword swell into a glowing counter. Jeuxvideo’s tank Divine turned the warrior into a giant knight with a light claymore that swept a huge radius. Same fantasy, two booths.

What the week did not settle

Release year. PC Gamer’s 2028 guess is cadence math (Petit Planet this winter, Nexus Anima aiming at 2027, three betas as habit). It is not Liu Wei on stage.

Open structure versus teleporting boss rush. GameRant was confused; Inven rode a trail through a region. Believe the ride until a client shows otherwise.

English roster names. Hexsworn is a preview label. HUD names Gramher, Qiong, Suixi, Weaver appeared on Famitsu stills and are not confirmed character pages.

Official PC specs. See PC requirements.

Play the kit: getting started, solo and co-op, world and lore. Spend money talk on monetization. File future tests on the beta checklist. When HoYoverse names a region or a Weaver in English, this roundup stays a dated press pile and the child guides inherit the nouns.
