Nodusfall vs Elden Ring, Monster Hunter, FF16

Palette, hunt loop, and combat weight are three different arguments. Keep them apart.

Elden Ring, Monster Hunter, FF16

The first week after Opening Night Live produced three comparisons that will follow Nodusfall until a client exists: Elden Ring for the dusk-and-gold look, Monster Hunter for the hunt loop, and — after people actually sat down — Final Fantasy 16 for how the sword feels. Fraser Brown (PC Gamer) was explicit that it is not a soulslike. Polygon’s Gamescom hour pushed the same point from the other side: the camp looks like a hunt village, the hits do not.

This page is the sorting hat for those sentences so combat can stay a verb list. It is not a review. There is no score. The game is unreleased as of 4 September 2026.

Elden Ring: palette, not posture

Polygon’s trailer write-up called the film Elden Ring-meets-Monster Hunter: barren landscapes, giant weapons, a rot-covered dark angel that comment sections immediately tagged as Malenia-coded, trolls at anvils, lightning-summoning winged tigers, dragons. Lincoln Carpenter at PC Gamer added the trailer lore that divinity has frayed until there are ten suns where one should be. That is mood. It is not a stamina bar, a bonfire, or a message that says “try jumping.”

Brown’s later hands-on is the correction the trailer needed. Nodusfall is not remotely a soulslike. Fights are snappier and more forgiving. You are not punished for attacking. You are punished for ignoring a weakness window, a clash, or an Elemental Link node. If you arrived because the key art looked like the Lands Between, read getting started before you buy a dexterity meme.

The art brief in the Japanese FAQ still explains the confusion: heavy contrast, oil-painting textures, maps based on real places then mythologized. Development and world own that look. This page only says: looking like Elden Ring is not playing like Elden Ring.

Monster Hunter: the commute and the contract

This comparison holds more of the loop. Polygon described a tent-village base camp on a mountainside — merchants, upgrades, hunt quests — then tracking and fighting giant monsters. Inven, PC Gamer, and GameRant all started in a hub, took a contract, mounted, and rode toward a marked beast. Mounts also chase a monster that flees. That is a hunt game, not an open-world daily checklist.

What Monster Hunter does not explain is the MMO job split. The Gamescom four were tank, two ranged seats, and Hexsworn. Clash is a charged parry, not a perfect-guard hunter art. Divine Skills transform you into a giant knight, a flying demon, or a clumsy beast-mount. Joint executions summon a spectral giant. Those are Nodusfall nouns. Player hub, mounts, and Dreadnodi are the practical pages.

Lincoln Carpenter’s joke that he will feel betrayed if he cannot turn a dragon into pants is still a joke. Forging from hunt materials is official copy. A full armor-set UI is not. Weapons refuses to fake one.

Final Fantasy 16: the sword after you sit down

Polygon’s hour of play is the newest press correction, and it is the one this wiki did not have on 3 September. After the tent camp, the combat felt like co-op Clive Rosfield: basic and special attacks, dodges, a charged clash parry, four cooldown abilities, flashy specials, hits that lack heavy weight. Bosses carry multiple health bars. Spectacle is the point. Reckless swordplay is more useful in four-player than a methodical Souls stagger dance.

That does not make Nodusfall a FF16 clone either. There is no Eikon-only billed roster. There is a Weaver select screen, Styles, and a Divine that grows as bosses fall. Treat Polygon’s line as a feel, not a license. Pair it with Brown’s clash description and 4Gamer’s booth tape on combat.

What none of those games are

Nodusfall is also not Genshin Impact. Characters are not random draws. Cosmetics are under consideration. PC is the confirmed SKU. Monetization is the money page; this page is the genre page.

It is not a review score. Fextralife, PC Gamer, GameRant, Inven, Famitsu, and Polygon all played a closed Gamescom build under a babysitter. First impressions live on impressions. When a public test exists, these comparisons get rewritten against a client, not against a trailer still.

If you only need one takeaway: watch the trailer for the continent, read Polygon and Brown for the sword, then pre-register instead of arguing clones in a comment section.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Nodusfall questions.

Is Nodusfall a soulslike?

No. Fraser Brown (PC Gamer) played it and said it is not remotely one. Polygon compared the feel to co-op Final Fantasy 16.

Is it just Monster Hunter with HoYoverse cosmetics?

The contract-mount-hunt loop is close. Clash, Divine transformations, Elemental Links, and four MMO jobs are not Monster Hunter.

Why does the trailer look like Elden Ring?

Oil-painting contrast and dusk-gold palette. That is art direction, not the combat posture. See development.
