Nodusfall Story and Lore

The plot in plain language, with each sentence cited.

Story and Lore

Most of the things you can confidently say about Nodusfall’s plot are short. The trailer is short. The first-party blog copy is short. Everything beyond the first paragraph below comes from one of two sources: TechNode’s 28 August 2026 Gamescom article, or the developer FAQ carried by Famitsu a day later. There is no English lore bible, no in-game codex from a playtest, no datamine. This page cites the press sources it leans on so a reader can audit the claim.

For the cosmology layer in particular (the Source Core, the floating continents), see world and lore. For how the plot is layered onto the gameplay loop, see getting started and Hunt Dreadnodi.

The sentence HoYoverse has signed

In a world where divine authority has crumbled and order has collapsed, players step into the role of Weavers, forging bonds with powerful companions, standing together against earth-shattering foes, seizing whatever divinity remains, and ultimately restoring order to this world. — HoYoverse, Nodusfall reveal news record 165735, 26 August 2026

That paragraph is the spine. Everything else on this page is variation, implication, or cautious inference around it.

The trailer said this

The official upload mixes in-engine cinematics and gameplay, all captured in Unreal Engine 5, with a disclaimer that the build is not final. The narration asks whence the first entanglement came, then frames floodwaters, malice on silken paths, ten suns, and Weavers who “spoke not the cause of their coming.” Closing lines dare you: reweave this world, or seek some other end.

Tone, not plot. Use the trailer as the visual key for what the script wants to feel like, not as the source for quest beats.

Weavers and why they fell

HoYoverse copy: Weavers are beings shaped and enlightened by the divine, entrusted with sacred missions that can alter the fate of the world. They were forged to find the source of calamity and then fell to the mortal world before enlightenment.

Reading that line as plain text: you are not a mature, fully-realised spirit-artisan. You are a Weaver who came down early. Whatever you are now is what you learned on the way.

Dreadnodi and why they are corrupting

HoYoverse copy: Dreadnodi are the corruption spread across the land after the Divine of creation fell silent. They twist legendary creatures and leave the world in ruin. Reclaiming leftover divinity by hunting them is the build loop and the story loop together.

PC Gamer’s 29 August 2026 summary is the cleanest single sentence: divine authority has crumbled and order has collapsed, taking with it the unstated natural rules that held the world together.

Source Core and the floating continents

TechNode (28 August 2026): the world sits on floating continents formed after the shattering of the Source Core. Scattered Elements transformed local ecosystems and granted powers to some creatures and humans. Players explore ruins suspended above a sea of clouds, in TechNode’s wording, to uncover why the Source Core was destroyed.

Treat Source Core as one outlet’s name for the cosmological break the trailer already implied: floodwaters, silken paths, ten suns, a silent Divine. When an English lore screen names the same thing, this page inherits the studio’s noun first.

The original language

HoYoverse’s English title is Nodusfall. The key art lockup reads NODUS FALL stacked. The Chinese surfaces use 源初之结 (the source-original knot). The Japanese surfaces use ノーダスフォール. Japanese press uses 織り手 (ori-te, “weaver”) for the player class, and 死結 (shiketsu, “death knot”) as the closest literal render of Dreadnodus. Trade pages sometimes use Nodus Fall as two words; both spellings name the same title.

What the dev team has said

Famitsu carried a developer FAQ the day after Gamescom. The plot-relevant lines are short:

  • Project age: about two years, more like four by the studio’s internal count. Both numbers are true, they are different counting lines.
  • Direction: childhood mythology as the art seed, peak action plus playing with friends as the design seed.
  • Platforms: PC confirmed, others and test dates to be announced through official channels.
  • Money: F2P, no character gacha, cosmetics under consideration.
  • Solo: most core content is playable alone.
  • Modes: PvP and PvPvE as seasoning around a PvE core.
  • Social: deliberately light, you are not forced into a guild.
  • Pillars: boss fights that feel like you felled a legend together.
  • Art: heavy contrast, oil-painting textures, maps based on real places then mythologised.

None of those lines quote a story beat by name. They describe the shape of the world, not the chapters inside it.

Why the world is oil-paint and not neon

CEO Liu Wei, in translated post-Gamescom remarks collected by Wikipedia and TechTimes, called development “very un-miHoYo”: a large-scale realistic-fantasy multiplayer title after fifteen years of anime gacha. That is a production note, not lore, but it explains why the palette is dusk and gold instead of Teyvat neon. The plot follows the art: a world where myth has weight, not energy.

What this page will not guess

There is no published list of plot-critical NPCs, no ordered chapter list, no in-game codex page count, no datamine on a public client. There is no English name for the Divine of creation, no published reason why divinity fell silent, no published trigger for the corruption, no chapter titles, no main antagonist name, no name list for the floating continents, no published hierarchy between Weavers and Linkers because Linker is a single-outlet translation choice.

When a beta, a codex, or an official lore drop ships with the first canon nouns, this page is the first to update, world and lore inherits second, getting started inherits last. Until then, treat the press copy as good witness and the trailer as good mood, but do not transpose either into a fan summary of facts.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Nodusfall questions.

What is the basic plot of Nodusfall?

Divine authority crumbled and order collapsed. Weavers fell to the mortal world before enlightenment. Dreadnodi spread corruption across legendary beasts. Players hunt them to reclaim whatever divinity remains. That paragraph is the only plot HoYoverse has signed.

Is the Divine of creation ever named?

No. HoYoverse copy uses "the Divine of creation" without a personal name. Traitors, antagonists, and chapter titles are also unnamed in the published copy.

Are Linkers a second class?

No. TechNode's Gamescom report translated the player class as Linker. Official English, ONL, and every other outlet say Weaver. This wiki follows Weaver.

Does the lore explain the trailer's ten suns?

No. The trailer mentions ten suns as mood imagery. TechNode's article mentions a Source Core that shattered and floating continents formed in its wake. They are consistent in tone, but neither links the other explicitly.
